Award-winning vocalist Kirby Sewell has been heralded as “one of the bnest Male Blues vocalists in Canada” by Real Blues Magazine. He appeared on the front of the Regional edition of the Internationally syndicated newspaper, METRO, and also has been featured twice on Holger Peterson’s Regional & National Blues radio programs on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Kirby, known to break a sweat on stage, truly connects with the spirit of the Blues. Nuances of his own life are shared in unforgettable performances, leaving audiences with no doubt that the Blues has spent time with him.
Known for their driving, emotional performances, the Kirby Sewell Band has been been invited to perform at the San Jose Jazz Festival, and San Francisco’s Biscuit & Blues, performing on the same stage as Trombone Shorty, John Nemeth, Mark Hummel, and many more. 2011 had been a great year, seeing the band open for other headliners like Edgar Winter, Monkey Junk, Bedouin Soundclash & Savoy Brown. Self-promoted shows have also been sold out at prestigious venues like The Ironwood, Cantos/National Music Centre of Canada, and Edmonton’s Festival Place.
This energy was captured in 2010, on his aptly titled sophomore CD “The Blues Found Me” that was released to media and fan acclaim, with favorable press and Independent airplay all over the world. They are set to release a full-length album of all original material in November 2011, entitled “Bought Myself A Hammer”. Sewell remains committed to that mystical connection between the music and people, with plans to tour extensively, wherever the Music takes him. Though usually a six-piece band, they can tour in different configurations and will always please blues-loving audiences from festivals to clubs.
